Your questions, answered

Everything you need to know about working with a birth and postpartum doula. Still wondering something? Just ask.

Working Together

What does a birth doula actually do?
A birth doula provides continuous physical and emotional support before and during labor. That means preparing with you in the weeks beforehand, building a birth plan, being on call around your due date, and staying with you through labor with comfort measures, positioning, and steady reassurance. I work alongside your medical team, not in place of it.
Do you support hospital births?
Absolutely. I support families birthing wherever they feel safest, hospital, birth center, or home. Most of the families I work with plan hospital births, and my job is to help you feel prepared and supported no matter where you deliver.
I already have an OB or midwife. Do I still need a doula?
Yes, and the two roles are different. Your provider focuses on the clinical side and typically sees you for short appointments. A doula fills the space between those visits with education, birth planning, and continuous support, and stays with you throughout labor. We complement your care team.
What areas do you serve?
I’m based on the Outer Banks and support families in person across Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Norfolk and the greater Hampton Roads area, Williamsburg, Greenville NC, Elizabeth City, and the northeastern NC coast. Farther travel to Richmond or Raleigh is available with the premium package, and we confirm the details on your free consultation.
When should I reach out?
Earlier is better. I take a limited number of births each month so I can give every family my full attention, and popular due dates fill up. Reaching out in your first or second trimester gives us the most time to prepare together, but it’s never too late to ask.

Services & Support

Do you offer postpartum support?
Yes. The weeks after birth are often the hardest and least-supported part, so I offer practical, non-judgmental help at home, recovery guidance, feeding support, newborn care, and making sure you are cared for, too. Postpartum support can be booked on its own or added to a birth package.
Do you offer placenta encapsulation?
I do. I’m PBi (Placenta Benefits Institute) trained and follow current food-safety and handling standards. It’s a distinct service for families who want it, and a lower-commitment way to work together. See the Placenta Encapsulation page for details.

About Dallas

What if I’m planning a VBAC?
I have both personal and professional experience with VBAC (two of my own children were home VBACs), and I love supporting VBAC families. I can help you prepare, build confidence, ask the right questions, and create a birth plan that honors your goals while addressing any concerns.
What are your qualifications?
I have 17+ years around birth and 600+ hours of training. My certifications include Certified Monitrice with Advanced Studies and Certified Holistic Birth Doula with Advanced Studies (The Matrona), DONA birth doula training, PBi Placenta Encapsulation Specialist, a birth teacher certification with Kara Maria Ananda, and postpartum doula training with Birth Arts International. You can see the full list on the About page.

Pricing & Booking

How much does support cost?
Support is offered at a few clear levels, from guided birth prep to full in-person birth support and a premium concierge tier. The Pricing page lays out what’s included at each level. The best next step is a free consultation, where we can talk through which option fits your birth and budget.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. Payment plans are available when you book early, and there’s a repeat-client rate as well. We can talk through the options on your free consultation, quality support should be as accessible as possible.
What if I’m not local, or want fully virtual support?
If you’re outside my in-person service area or prefer fully remote support, my sister practice, Virtual Birth Co, offers virtual doula care for families anywhere. It’s the same experience and philosophy, delivered by video and phone. Visit virtualbirthco.com to learn more.
